Using the chair instead of the floor this class interweaves meditation, breath, sound and movement to heal and strengthen the mind and body. Find movement with the aid of the chair and other props to bring awareness to each pose as you increase strength and stamina, let the breath guide you from shape to shape, deepen your understanding of your body and where it needs more or less support from the chair and other props. A perfect place for those with injuries or inability to move to the floor.
An exploration of breath with movement. Classes start and end with pranayama breath practices to prepare the body for movement and return the body to a state of stillness before the class ends. For the beginner or advanced yogi moving into the poses, in the Hatha tradition, gently while attaching the movement to the breath, taking time to strengthen, hold, balance, and transition safely.
Ages 6 and up. All Levels. This class is for everyone! Yogis of all ages and levels are welcome in this class. From a gentle stretch, to a flow, no class is the same because each class is built on the requirements and wishes of the students. Using slow deliberate strong movements and longer holds this class builds strength and integrity in each pose. Start out slowly and building in strength and intensity as the class progresses into a powerful slow flow. Enjoy new challenges as poses are taken to an intriguing depth, balance is challenged and props enhance the depth of each challenge.
This practice is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. A sequence of supported poses by the use of props held for several minutes allow for passive stretching, better posture, a calmer nervous system and a quieter mind. This class is appropriate for students of all levels.
Long, delicious holds of passive poses to get to the connective tissue and deep into the joints for an amazing yoga experience. Yin yoga is a quiet practice suitable for students of all levels. Through longer held postures targeting the connective tissue of the low back, hips and hamstrings, Yin Yoga invites you to slow down and create space for stillness while nourishing joints, ligaments, tendons and fascia. Poses are seated, supine or prone and are held with muscles relaxed for several minutes. Focus on your breath, being present in the moment, relieving tension and letting go. The Yin practice gives powerful mental and emotional benefits as practitioners becomes quiet, still and mindful of the present. Give yourself this opportunity to surrender, slow down and come back to balance. A perfect complement for your more challenging practices.
Focus on a different pose in each class. Each day the pose is broken down into its most basic components. Focusing on stretching properly, building strength in the areas of focus, proper alignment and breath you start moving toward the chosen pose through a series of asanas that prepare the body to take the chosen pose with ease and competence.
